Company Director

Iulia was born and bred in Taumarunui in the central North Island of New Zealand. Of Samoan and Maori (Ngati Haua, Ngati Hekeawai) descent, her journalism career began in Auckland in 1987 when she was a pioneer member of TVNZ's Maori Department and the Pacific programme 'Tagata Pasifika'.

Later she formed her own media and public relations company, Silk Associates. Her clients have included the Pacific Business Trust, Pacific Chiefs of Police, Turangawaewae Marae, Food Standards Australia New Zealand, Legal Services Agency, Te Matatini National Kapa Haka Festival, Miss South Pacific Beauty Pageant and UNDP. She worked as a freelance feature writer; a news producer for TVNZ's ONE News; a newsreader and journalist for Pacific Media Network/Niu FM radio; and an OB and field director for many independent Māori TV productions.

In 2003 she helped launch Maori Television's publicity department. She works as a senior reporter for Maori Television's current affairs programme 'Native Affairs'. She is also the chair of the Pacific Island Media Association in New Zealand and director/owner of the Brown Pages, a directory of Maori, Pacific and indigenous peoples in media, arts and culture.
